The Therapy Process

Our work begins with a free 15-minute phone consultation to explore whether we both feel comfortable moving forward. If we decide to continue, we’ll schedule a full session. Sessions are conducted via Zoom or Google Meet. Therapy works best when accessed from a laptop, but phones and tablets are also fine.

No-Show/Late Policy

I reserve your session time just for you. Missed appointments or late arrivals reduce our ability to do meaningful work. I ask for a 24-hour notice for cancellations; otherwise, the full session fee applies.

Welcome to BeCalm.

You’ve made it this far—take a breath. Be proud of yourself for seeking support.

BeCalm offers a safe and welcoming space for individuals navigating mental health challenges, emotional difficulties, or the effects of trauma. Our team is here to help.

We use two approaches because they work differently, and together they offer balance:

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): created by a woman living with mental illness—structured, compassionate care for those who need more effective tools.
  • Existential Therapy: shaped by Holocaust survivors seeking meaning in suffering—space to explore purpose, freedom, and authenticity even in pain.

BeCalm serves people at a point of change who are ready to do the work and want to live more intentional, healthier lives.

Why BeCalm?

Therapy here is not about quick fixes. It’s about finding the strength to face life as it is and the skills to respond differently. Together, we slow down, make sense of what you’re carrying, and choose steps that bring more clarity and compassion into daily life.

Our Approaches

  • Together: DBT = structure & skills; Existential = depth & meaning

How It Works

My Mission

My mission is grounded in social justice, inclusion, and radical honesty—therapy as a place to reclaim a life worth living.

Structured therapy for addiction, trauma, and mental health

You are functioning on the outside.

Internally, it is harder—anxiety, emotional exhaustion, compulsive behaviors, substance use, relationship patterns, or feeling stuck in cycles you cannot seem to stop.
You understand what is happening.
It is not shifting.

Telehealth Services and Insurance

BeCalm Counseling provides telehealth therapy for adults located in Indiana and Florida.

Now accepting Optum insurance plans in Indiana.

Private pay services are also available.

For clients using out-of-network benefits, a superbill can be provided for insurance reimbursement and submission.

Insurance coverage and reimbursement vary by plan and benefits. Clients are encouraged to verify coverage directly with their insurance company before beginning treatment.

Addiction & Behavioral Coping

Sometimes the problem is alcohol.

Sometimes it is substances, spending, food, pornography, overworking, relationships, screen use, productivity, or staying constantly busy.

The pattern underneath is often the same.

You are trying to survive the day, quiet your nervous system, or get relief from pressure, shame, anxiety, loneliness, exhaustion, or emotional pain.

These behaviors are not random or because you are weak.

They are often survival strategies that helped you function for a long time — until they stopped working.

This work is not about judgment or shame.

It is about understanding the pattern honestly, building safer ways to cope, and helping your life feel more stable without needing to constantly escape, numb out, avoid, or push through.

Clinical fit

This work is a good fit if:

  • You are high-functioning but not stable internally
  • You use substances, compulsive behaviors, overworking, avoidance, or relationships to cope.
  • You understand your patterns but cannot change them
  • You have tried therapy or medication and still feel stuck
  • You are looking for structured, consistent work

Presentation

Addiction & behavioral patterns

  • Alcohol or substance use
  • Emotional eating, spending, pornography, gambling, or compulsive behaviors
  • Shame cycles and relapse patterns
  • Feeling “fine” until everything crashes at once
  • Anxiety and overthinking
  • Emotional intensity or shutdown
  • Being highly responsible for others
  • Repeating behavioral or relational patterns

Physical symptoms

  • Chronic pain
  • Ongoing inflammation or illness
  • Insomnia or disrupted sleep
  • Persistent tension or fatigue

These are often part of the same system, not separate problems.

Nervous System

This work focuses on how your nervous system developed and operates.
Long-standing stress, trauma, addiction, emotional invalidation, or early pressure can shape how your system responds now.
You may not identify this as trauma.
Your system may still be responding as if something is unresolved.

Approach

This is structured, skills-based therapy.

We focus on nervous system stabilization, addiction recovery, relapse prevention, emotional regulation, and long-term pattern change.

Insight alone is not the goal.
The goal is helping your life actually change.

Background

Licensed Mental Health Counselor

13 years clean and sober
10+ years of experience in addiction and mental health

Not a fit

This may not be the right fit if you are looking for:

  • Occasional or check-in therapy
  • A primarily conversational approach
  • Short-term symptom relief without deeper change

Decision

If this approach fits what you are looking for, we can begin there.

Clinical counseling with compassion and clarity.

Practical DBT skills with room to make meaning.
